Self Worth πŸͺž

The dictionary meaning of self worth is "a feeling about one's own self, that I am a good person who deserves to be treated with respect"

It is a sense of one's own value as perceived by oneself. Am example of self worth is " I believe I am a good person and deserve good things or I believe I am a bad person or a not good enough person and deserve bad things. It's about ME measuring my own worth as a person. Because searching for self worth in other's eyes or by constantly comparing self with others is definately a losing battle.

Because, honestly there will always be someone better looking, more attractive, richer, successful that who we are .. and if I continue to measure my self worth against others achievements, I may tend to fall short somewhere.

Giving my own example,  I would mostly measure my self worth against the culinary skills of others and often fall short in my own eyes. Call it conditioning, call it comparison, call it anything you like, but the fact remained that I was falling short in my own eyes.

...Until I accepted me for who I am, which took awareness, work and most of all self realisation. Also I challenged my inner critical voice and decided that being a great chef cannot and should not be a measure of my self worth, and that I should n could focus on my other strengths and hone them. Honestly, I also worked to develop compassion for my own self and to believe that it's ok to be imperfect. Imperfection is a crucial part of human experience and it's all right to be that.

It did take a huge amount of effort of reach here

This process included realisation, awareness, the desire to overcome the feeling or the lack of self worth, complete acceptance of who I am as a person, how I see myself and finally self compassion and self love.

The journey has been so totally worth it and equally rewarding.

More ...in my next blog

Hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am
