Love : is not
In my last blog, I spoke about what love is. Let's look at my interpretation of what love is not;
Love is not unbalanced or unequal. Each person is valued equally. Each person's thoughts, desires, hopes and feelings are equally heard and accounted for, no matter the achivement or the experience. It feels equal.
Love is not merging your two identities together to become one unit which is not capable of existing without the other. Infact if you want to experience real love, it is important to first sincerely develop a strong self - identity.
Love creates an environment to air hurt feelings. It does not store resentment and grievances over days, months or years only to explode directly, indirectly or in passive aggressive ways.
Love is most certainly Not Unsupportive. It does not say that since I don't appreciate it, it's best if it is not done.
It knows that only when two people are independently happy, doing things that they want to do, can they bring that happiness and relationship to blossom when they are together.
Love is Not Jealous of other persons success, looks , friends, or any such thing or person. That's distrust. Love is not ownership. It doesn't make you feel bad about yourself.
Love is also Not being Dismissive, not giving due to others opinions or ideas. Love is also not "My way or the Highway"
Love is also Not being needy all the time. It's not about desiring to be with each other every minute of others experiences, friendships, work or interests.
Love is not Explosive Anger. Love is not Force. Love is not tantrums. Love is also not silent treatment.
Love is not manipulative. It is not concealing, hiding or lying. Love is not dishonest. Infact it is just the opposite, open, transparent and communicative and honest.
Love is also Not Guaranteed. It requires caring, showing up, listening, caring a little more, nurturing, being grateful and then a little more of the same.
Love is not a Forever Promise. It doesn't have to last a certain period of time like a day, a month, one year or 10 or a life time for it to be pure, true and real.
Would like to end with a quote from Will Smith
Here's wishing all of you Rise in Love 😊
