Consistency

We all know people who are successful in various fields and if there is one habit common in all of them, it is being focused and committed to their goals and doing activities and things to achieve that goal day in and day out.

I am reminded of a quote by the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali and he said " I hated every minute of training but I said
"Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life like a champion."

On a day to day basis, from amongst the people close to me, if there is one thing that i have admired is being disciplined, committed and consistent.

I have made a commitment to myself to focus on my health. Few things that being healthy involves for me are cutting down on that cup of chai (s) which I love, walk regularly which I somehow manage, strength training and stretching which I badly need and completely dislike as it entails aches and pains. Two days into strength training and getting out of that bed looks like a mammoth task. Motivation is at an all time low as there are too many aches and the desire to be healthy has been replaced by the desire to laze on the couch and order junk food. Has it ever happened to you ?
And that is the time I rolled out of my bed and slowly made my way to the gym. Was it tough .... Hell ..yeah ! My feet would not lift and this struggle does not finish in a day. It's a daily struggle of WINNING OVER MYSELF AND DOING WHATS RIGHT FOR ME.

Motivation will come and go as it pleases. One day it's there and the other day. .poof ..out in the wind somewhere.
Makes more sense to rely on discipline and not on motivation.

So what exactly is consistency and how can we actually start being consistent ?
My advise ..start small but start one must

I get my daily dose of inspiration from my parents who are diligent in their exercise routine.
Coming back to me I started with drinking one less cup of tea and one extra glass of water daily.

What separates the good players from the greats people remember is consistency.

So, how does one achieve it and make it into a habit ?

Moreover, if any activity is done for 21 days at a stretch regularly, it develops into a habit.

I vaguely remember an interview I read long time ago of  someone who cracked the IAS exam and likewise for children who score 100 percent marks in boards or every athletes who wake up and practise 14-16 hours every day and the one aspect that will stand out in all of this is consistency and discipline, focus and commitment.

What follows is greatness.
How can that be left behind anyways

The secret of our future is hidden in our daily routine and trust me when I say this that everything you and I want is on the other side of consistency.
