Greed
Greed is a longing which is completely uncontrolled for money, power, acquisition, status, wealth or fame. The desire is excessive, and often stems from selfishness and is unending.
Because there is an intense desire to have everything for oneself, it certainly prevents others from having their fair share.
How many times have we seen internal rife between families due to this one aspect ?
What we have done to our environment is also a product of greed itself. The prime example of the same is twin towers coming up within Supertech Emerald Court in Noida despite several building violations because, I dare say, collective collaboration of builder and concerned officials involved.
Real Reason : Greed .. what else !!
It is absolutely bottomless as one can never be satisfied. And when I look around today, I find most of us in the same boat. From that person who collects extra parking charges to the doctor who writes a few extra tests just to be sure to cheating people in business deals or outright stealing from them to exploiting natural resources without zero regards for the environment or the future generations. The examples like this constant craving are endless.
We feel that once we receive a certain status, object for example an upgraded car or an exotic holiday, more or endless wealth we will feel fulfilled, happy and complete. But that's never the case unfortunately, because the poison of greed creates a constant inner hunger. So even if I upgrade my car which I have wanting to for quite some time, unless and until I feel content and grateful with and for the same, the feeling is going to be temporary and then once again the cycle of having more begins.
There is JUST NO DENYING THAT.
I honestly don't think there is anyone right now who is not impacted by greed.
What does greed do ? It impacts our personal and professional lives. It affects politics and business and with this global warming, it has already impacted our precious environment.
Result : UNHAPPINESS, ILL HEALTH, STRESS, WORRY, CONFLICTS IN FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES. GLOBAL CONFLICT AND WARFARE and all this ultimately results in suffering and more of it.
The opposite is greed is generosity, benevolence, unselfishness and altruism but more of it in my next blog.
As long as greed is stronger than compassion, there will always be suffering.
