Caring for our Seniors

I completely believe in the above sentence.

From the time we are born, to everything that we do and become, our parents contribution is invaluable to our very being. I personally cannot remember a single time or incident when I have felt the need for any kind of support from my parents and it went missing.

 Now with the parents getting older, the roles are being being reversed. So the question that we as care givers, need to ask ourselves is Why do we need to take care of our parents ??

There are a lot of reasons but a few that I can think of are as follows ;

1) Without them, we would not even be there. Parents love is the purest form of love that there is and taking care of them is giving back all the love and effort, understanding and compassion, they showered us with, while raising us. Caring for them is also our expression of love and affection for them.

2) Social Support - Isolate them and make them more prone and susceptible to negative emotions and beliefs. It is a fact at any age for that matter. Your visits and involvement can offer your parents mental and physical support  besides the companionship they need, to feel supported and involved. It may also help in keeping mental health concerns at bay.

3) Being good to ones parents is the path to becoming an outstanding person.

Aging comes with its own set of challenges like loneliness and illness being amongst the foremost concerns. It's upto the young to understand the concerns of the seniors and be there for them because left to the seniors, they would not demand anything, least of all their time.

4) Kyun nahin is my question too ?

Everyone becomes busy at some point of time. The busy individuals need to decide how much time they are willing to devote to care for their elderly parents. And it's not that any section of society is any less busy. It's a question of prioritizing the needs, including medical attention and desires of the elderly before yours.

You may not be qualified to be a full time care-giver but in your heart and soul, have you really tried your best ?

Birth, ageing, sickness and death is a circle of life and is completely unavoidable.

We will all get there one day.

Lets just remember, people who are older are still human and all they need from us is our time and love. Also understanding their needs and concerns will ensure their good health.

Take care of yourself and your loved ones ❤️
